Volunteer Opportunity: You say PR, we say FABULOUS!!!!

We need a PR/Publicity Consultant for the 2010 Mardi Gras Youth Festival

Description
Twenty10 is the only youth service in NSW specifically for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) young people. For 28 years we have been providing services, particularly for GLBT young people who are homeless or having a rough time.

Twenty10 is producing its third Youth Festival as part of the 2010 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. The Youth Festival fosters and highlights opportunities for young people to participate in this important cultural event in a safe and appropriate way.

We want to get the word out there about the great events that are on and the active role young people are taking in the GLBT community, but we can easily get drowned out by all the news and hype surrounding other Mardi Gras events. It is terrible to see the efforts of young people not be acknowledged publically, or for other young people to not know that there are events out there for them. Your advice, skills and contacts could help these young people impact the festival and community and really leave their mark.

We would like a PR/Media consultant to help us make this impact. There are three things we would like you to help us deliver:

1. A standout Youth Festival Media Kit - work with Twenty10 staff (David Moutou) to pull together the stories and angles that will help us tell the story of the Youth Festival. Some copywriting involved. Media Kit preparation will happen in early December and some of January (we deserve a good Christmas break!).

2. Hone our key messages for the Festival - work with the Twenty10 spokesperson (Managing Director, Rebecca Reynolds) and two young people who will be the face of the festival. Spend 2 hours preparing them for media interviews, drawing out their interesting story and ensuring they know how to communicate our key messages.

3. Help us make connections with media outlets - using your own networks or the networks available to you, help us get our story out into the media world. This would have to happen from mid January to mid February 2009.

At Mardi Gras time the eyes of Sydney all look to the GLBT community. Somewhere out there are many young people coming to terms with their own sexuality. They're feeling alone and isolated. Seeing other young people having fun together in the Mardi Gras festival could give them the hope they need. Your help is so valuable to that young person and priceless for us.
