Safe Schools Project Blueprint: Twenty10 plans to work with service providers and educational bodies to improve the access that Teachers and School Counsellors have to programs and information to challenge homophobia.

The need we have identified...

Research  shows that school is often the site of abuse, discrimination and violence experienced by young people of diverse genders and sexualities, or the place where any young person can be targeted by bullying as a result of assumptions about their sexuality or gender identity.

Disengaging from schooling has serious impacts on future opportunities in life.

The plan we have...

We know that there are some great programs to challenge homophobia happening in schools around Australia, we plan to make a central online hub for these programs and make it easier for classroom teachers to find what they can do. We will conduct training with teachers and counsellors around best practice and early intervention.

How you can help...

Make a donation right now or join our Giving Program, with a monthly donation.

$50 per month provides online/phone support for a target school

$250 provides casual relief so that two teachers can attend training

$500 covers design costs for a help card on intervening into bullying

$1000 produces a web video that role models effective intervention

Write to your local member of Parliament, or the NSW Minister for Education and Training, and ask them to support funding for programs that challenge homophobia in educational settings or support the creation of Gay Straight Alliances..

The vision we are working towards...

School teachers, no matter what their curriculum area, will have the capacity to challenge homophobia when it occurs and promote their classroom as a place that is welcoming and safe for all.

The Twenty10 safe school website becomes a learning hub for school staff from all sectors, with service providers promoting best practice and seeking better practice.
