Transgender Basics
Transgender Basics is a 20 minute educational film on the concepts of gender and transgender people by the Gender Identity Project (GIP) at New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center. You can check out the Gender Identity Project's website here.
In Transgender Basics, two providers from the Gender Identity Project discuss basic concepts of gender - sex, identity and gender roles - as three transgender community members share their personal experiences of being trans and genderqueer.
Twenty10 thinks that it is really well made. You can contact us for additional recommendations on how to engage young people of diverse genders.
New Twenty10 Gender Identity Poster
Twenty10 has released a new poster promoting gender diversity. The text on the poster reads:
"Wherever you and your gender sit, there is a place for you.
Gender, sex and sexuality are not black and white.
If you are under 26 and identify as transgender, intersex of gender-queer
or are exploring what gender means for you, Twenty10 can help you
access the support and information you may need."
This poster is a great one to have up in your service or consultation room to ensure that people feel comfortable and welcome to talk about their gender identity or issues they may be having.
