Events and opportunities

Here are some events and opportunities around the Greater Sydney Area:

  • Check out the Resilience and Pride In the West forum in Bankstown on IDAHOBIT – Monday 17 May!
  • Attention future hip hop stars! Street Media‘s Hip Hop coaching program for folks aged 16 to 24 every runs every Tuesday in May from 3pm to 4pm. For more info, get in touch with James at Street Media.
  • Yarn It Up is a virtual yarning event for Sistergirls, Brotherboys, and trans mob in NSW with ACON. The yarns will focus on strengthening and supporting the health, wellbeing and voices of Sistergirls, Brotherboys and trans mob across NSW, building the profile of Sistergirl and Brotherboy community groups, and offering an opportunity for the community to connect and come together. We are keen to help build community kinship, cultural and spiritual connections through storytelling and activities. Next session is 19 May!
  • Are you the next Youth Action Artist in Residence? They are looking for a young person from NSW aged 12-24 to complete a paid commission to contribute to their annual report design. Submissions are open until May 21!

Articles and videos

Surveys, studies and consultations

  • Waverly Council wants to hear from young people aged 24 or younger – and you could win a gift voucher if you fill out their survey!
  • The folks at Blaq, ACON and the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University are looking for LGBTIQA+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people between 14 and 25 years old to fill out a survey to understand social and emotional wellbeing and mental health of people in this group. Fill out the survey here.
  • ACON and UNSW are looking for gay, bisexual and queer Asian men aged 18+ to fill out the Gay Asian Men’s Survey. Available in English, Thai, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
  • Researchers at the University of New South Wales Sydney are seeking volunteer research participants to learn about sensory impact of public buildings, particularly regarding how sensory impact of buildings might effect how a range of neurodiverse people use public buildings. Resilience & Pride in the West: An International Day Against  Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism  and Transphobia panel discussion  comprised of local people talking about  lateral violence and intersectional  identities within Greater Western  Sydney.  Panellists include: Cassandra Best,  Karen Menzies, Christian Georges Moore  and Mohammad Awad. Moderated by  Shiva Chandra. Followed by a Zine making workshop  by Outloud! Lunch provided. Applications for Yarn It Up are now open! Yarn It Up is an opportunity for Sistergirls and Brotherboys in NSW to connect and come together for a series of four themed virtual yarning circles.
